Archive Treasure Log by T&S*
2021 - 2022

1. Stuart, Florida  2/2/21 - 2/4/21
Reservations booked for 2 nights at a local hotel.
   Weather - low 46/ high 63,  2nd day - 41/64 - breezy
   Ocean/Waterways - semi-choppy, semi-rough

The goal of this trip was to search for historic coins. Some might refer to this as pirates treasure. Planned and researched by Thomas.
We began early and traveled to the first location, the Turtle Trail Beach Access where reports of silver coins from a 1715 shipwreck were supposedly found last year. We weren't alone, two other detectorists arrived at the same time. As they went south, we went north. I noticed they were detecting high up on the beach, near the dunes and trees. The beach had only one or two people walking their dogs, very remote and empty. We also noticed surveillance cameras around.
We searched diligently going north for a very long way staying on the beach, not going into the choppy water. After a while, we headed back still searching as we went. We had found very little at that location. We then proceeded to a few more places on the list that turned out about the same. I can say that we gave it a good try.
After that, our strategy changed. We had used up a lot of our time but still tried to fit in detecting some parks. We did find a lot of change/quarters, a 1952 wheat penny, one charm (jewelry) and a couple of cool hot wheels. Not exactly the treasure we were after but we did have a good time and we're already looking forward to the next trip.

2. Creeks Under Bridges, Florida
Magnet Fishing and Metal Detecting - 6/21/21 (plus)

Hi There,
Just wanted to give an update on some places I've been Magnet Fishing, I've had fun but... "thank goodness I also brought my metal detector!"
This place is a very remote bridge on a road that is about 30 - 40 minutes from any town (both directions). But I knew people went there to fish in the creek and party. If you look at the first picture, you can see the bridge. Both pictures are the same location.
Out of the last three times Magnet Fishing in these spots (creeks under bridges), this trip was terrible! At least with the other places, I was pulling up all kinds of hardware (nails, bolts and crazy metal pieces) but this creek was actually clean. Well, I guess that's a good thing, right?
(lol)
So of course, I went metal detecting and there is a picture of my detector finds (about $3.00 or so) however I haven't done my inspection yet. So, I might get a surprise. Coin collectors are always on the look out and we know it only takes one valuable coin!
Finally, I had this beautiful black and blue butterfly flying around me for a while.
I call that a beautiful treasure!

3. Fort Island Gulf Beach, Florida
Metal Detecting - 7/26/21  (for a few hours or so)

Hey There,
This morning I went metal detecting at Fort Island Gulf Beach. This beach is located near Crystal River (the town) on the Gulf side of Florida. Cool (smaller) beach with a nature trail that leads out to a good size dock for fishing and some public boat ramps a little further down.
I got there early, around 7:30 am, but (wow) not early enough! I say that because there were at least 4 city workers including the one that combs the beach sand with his tractor. I'm not a big fan of that... I much prefer a beach that hasn't had the tractor gone over it!

There were a few vehicles but to my surprise, no other detectorist so I got out there quick and covered some ground. Now, keep in mind there are no places to eat at this beach (the building in the picture are the rest rooms)... there aren't even any vending machines! So, not surprisingly, I didn't find a lot of change but I did find a very nice ring, a small charm, hot wheels and some weights.
The ring is a beauty! Silver filigree and a good size too!
Was it worth the trip? Absolutely YES!

4. Chiefland, Florida
      Metal Detecting - 2/2/22

Greetings!,
On this day, I went to a town called Chiefland. It's a bit inland on the Gulf side of Florida. So this was not a beach day but more a "park" day. There are several parks in Chiefland which allow metal detecting.
As you can see by the pics, the big find for the day was the ring. This ring was interesting more than valuable... but I did learn some stuff which is good.
The ring is made of tungsten, which is becoming more and more popular with men, especially younger men. I went to the website (King Will Rings) and found the ring, it sells for about $28.00 or so (not including shipping). I was surprised how many reviews this ring had, it was well over a hundred. The neat thing about this ring is some refer to it as a spinner ring... the middle chain part can spin around. Also the reviews claim that tungsten tends to resist scratching better. This ring does have some scratches on the edges (rim), one side a bit more than the other but it was a detector find after all. The rest of it actually looks really good!
As for the rest, the one token that is separated (looks like a coin) has a Camel on it and obviously has to do with the cigarette brand, the earrings are costume jewelry and not a lot of change.
I'm very happy with the ring!
Yes, it was worth the trip!

  Exploring clues - 4/1/22 - part of 4/2/22

Hi Everyone,
In this log entry, we went to explore clues for The Secret.

If your not familiar with this treasure hunt, we give details in our April, 2022 edition of T&S* Treasure News on our home page (check it out - it's free!).

Our first destination was the Fountain of Youth in St. Augustine. As we walked through the place, we noticed where the buildings and trees were located and some changes that had been made, then we decided to talk to one of the employees.
He said they do get people asking about the treasure but he also gave us his theory as to why he felt it was in an entirely different location. He had some valid points and his information did give us something to think about.
We also had the great pleasure of meeting the owner of the Fountain of Youth park right before leaving. We discussed our theory with him and had a long chat about it. The best part is we made a connection with him that could be very beneficial in the future.

Our second destination was White Point Garden in Charleston, South Carolina. It was quite the road trip to get there... one I'm sure we'll both remember.
We walked around the park identifying some of the clues and admiring the incredible trees and statues. We noticed a couple getting married in the large gazebo.
Both of us had our own ideas as to where the treasure could be but one thing we both agreed on was that even just probing for the treasure would be quickly noticed.

6. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Metal Detecting - 4/2/22 - 4/6/22

Reservations booked for 4 nights at a local hotel.
    Weather - high's: 65 - 78 (degrees) low's: 46 - 63  windy
Severe  weather one night - Tornado watch

    Ocean/Waterways - semi-choppy, semi-rough

  Hi There,
On this trip, we went to Myrtle Beach, S.C. and it was quite interesting. I'd say that by the end of our stay, we really got to know this beach well.
Even though the Spring Breakers (crowd) were there, they really weren't going on the beach much because of the weather. So, where we thought we would find stuff... there wasn't much to find. However, certain spots seemed good for finding jewelry (only) with hardly any coins found. It was a little strange.
As for other people who metal detect... we saw a few but that was it. The weather was a messy factor, especially with the tornado watch!
Where we stayed was close to the middle part of the beach and we did a good job of covering that area. We also had good information as to where the locals like to go in North Myrtle beach and we did a good part of that area too.
This was a very good test for a new metal detector we were trying out so that was a success. As you can see in the picture, we did find some rings, a turtle necklace, a man's bracelet, coins and a few other things. It was a good trip and (of course) we're already looking forward to the next trip!
As far as Myrtle Beach... it probably would be better to metal detect this place in the middle of summer.

7. St. Augustine, Florida
Follow up on The Secret treasure. - 5/4/22

  Hey There,
On this day, we went back to St. Augustine to follow up on our own ideas as to The Secret treasure and where we think it's hidden.
We were fortunate to have talked to a few long time employees of The Fountain of Youth park, which brought out new details about the changes the park had gone through over time.
We also talked with the owner of the park again and were glad that he remembered us! It was also a good opportunity for us to make sure our contact information for the owner was correct.
In conclusion, we both still would probe for the treasure in the spots we had decided on but also added a few other spots due to the new information we received from talking to the employees.
We plan to continue the quest for this treasure and probably a few other Secret treasures too.

9. Okaloosa Island, Florida  12/31/22 - 1/2/23
Reservations booked for 2 nights at a local hotel.
   Weather - mid 60's - breezy

Hi Everyone,

Well, this was a strange trip, that's for sure!
The night before going metal detecting on Okaloosa Island, I was in the hotel room and remember thinking to myself... I need to buy myself a spoon (because I had a fork, but not a spoon). Guess what I found the next day on the beach, yep - a SPOON!! I know (please don't cringe), but just take a look at it - it's NEW!!

Ah... but that wasn't all! Now, how often do you find NEW quarters and a bunch of them? Usually, it's not like that (not for us anyways).
It was early morning and I headed for the pier (I don't always do that) but I did this time. I noticed one other person metal detecting down the beach and a few people walking. As I got next to the pier, my detector went off and I found two quarters. Right then, a man walked up to me with a big smile on his face and said, "Your gonna be here ALL DAY!" He then told me he had thrown a bunch of change off the pier the day before. Wow... I guess he wanted to see who would find it (or something) because it was rather chilly, windy and early in the morning (crazy)!!
I smiled back at him and said thank you! He then walked away, still smiling! I proceeded to find a good bit of change as you can see in the picture. Happy to have it to0...
because I didn't find much else that day!
